Twitter has become and integral part of my life since I joined in 2011. The microblogging site helps me to keep up with happenings in pop culture and events around the world.


Coming up on my 5th year anniversary on Twitter, I have compiled a list of my top 10 Twitter accounts to follow. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but these 10 are my must-follows.

My 10 Favorite Twitter Accounts to Follow:
Social media, a virtual world designed to share, to exchange information, or to notify all of your contacts of how photogenic your cat is. Many social media outlets have assertively established their importance in the marketing industry. However, as these platforms evolve, it is key that marketers take full advantage of them.

While all channels of social media aren’t applicable to every business, if used efficiently they can be a creative avenue to reach target audiences. Currently, snapchat is the new wave.

Snapchat is a mobile application that allows users to send and receive "self-destructing" photos and videos called snaps. Additionally, users can post snaps creating a montage like “story” for all their followers to view. Snapchat has successfully distinguished itself from other media platforms with their live, then disappearing content characteristics.

Okay, enough back story. What can Snapchat do for marketers? Oh, how the possibilities are endless with this one, so here’s a few.
Anonymity online no matter how much you think that you have created an anonymous account, is no longer the case. With the changes in law and the brilliance of a number of technology experts, finding the source of an anonymous comment on a website is now the norm.

Over a year back I received a call from a tech guy who was out to turn the tables on people who write slander on employers as anonymous people on influential websites. He not only told me what he could do, but actively showed me how you can find out who wrote what on various websites and then trace their whereabouts. It's quite fascinating really and something that at long last brings to the table something all future employers want to know.
Often in public speeches I talk about how social media was Marketing Eye's game changer. It took us from doing the hard yards marketing with what dollars we had left to do so, to sitting back and taking orders - literally.

When we started out on social media, we were reluctant. What do we share? How do we share it? What would our target audience be interested in? We had so many questions, but due to the infancy of social media and blogging at the time, we were able to experiment. I would write one blog, and see the results. It may have been a pure marketing blog with really good content and would get a few hundred readers.
Without doubt, every company has a marketing problem. 
When asked today what I think a Marketing Executive would need to have that they may not have needed a few years ago, my answer was simple. "A Marketing Executive must be a social media expert."
If you don't believe that being average is an option, then as a buddying high flying marketing executive there are a few tips that may take you to the next level and help get you noticed in the market.

High performing marketing executives have a couple of key traits that are imperative to their success.

1. Dream big: Marketing Executives that stand out from the crowd often have big dreams that they want to fulfill. These dreams are documented in diaries, post-it notes, and importantly deeply entrenched in their mindset.
Through social media you can now forge a very lucrative career, particularly as it becomes a unique arm of a company’s communications department.

They are many companies that will now pay six figures for the right social media person, but how do you build and maximise your expertise? 
I was asked yesterday, "how did you attract so many readers to your blog".

I cannot remember the year I started blogging, but it was well before it became mainstream. I started my first blog on blogspot and then matured to having a blog on our company website.
Blogging is at times difficult, but creating a strong social media following for your blog can be even more difficult. Here are eight tips that will help make your blog stand out. 

What comes first the blog or the social media following? This is dependent on the individual. For example, some individuals already have a strong online presence through their social media accounts. They might already have a large following on their Instagram posting about lifestyle, and want to take it that next step further. They then create a blog geared towards lifestyle, so they are able to write more in depth posts.
