Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

I met a guy at the bar at Treetops Restaurant on Peachtree Road in Atlanta a few months ago. He had a hint of an Australian accent and in no time at all was talking to me about how we both derived from Australia and were embarking on business expansion.

Quite a smart man, he was fascinating in so many ways; his knowledge of the world, people, psychology, business and his story on how he had grown up and started doing what he does today. I would imagine him to be a highly successful businessman who commands the attention of everyone in the room.
Before and After Website Design - why sometimes you have to start from scratch

Since we both travel around the world and in particular, spend so much time in Atlanta, we have become firm friends.

The other week, he rung me up to do a favour. It was simple; fix my brothers website. After a Gold Coast company had conned him out of a whole heap of money and delivered him with nothing, and then another friend had been rushed but came up with the "before" shot which really isn't quite there, we gave it a go.

Our team has never met the client, nor have we ever had any conversations. Fortunately for us, we know the business and were able to strategise about what the businesses online presence should look like. With no brand to speak of, but a great product and team of landscape architects at their disposal, we embarked on designing a website that aims to draw new customers to the website, sell product and engage with customers looking to create sustainable green environments.

Our designer, Rin Phakkhieo, designed this website (to the right and referred to as after) ensuring that the website was interacted, engaged with the customer, visually appealing and integrated with social media networks. On top of that, she kept in mind search engine optimisation and the use of content on the home page to drive keywords that resonate with the visitor to the site.

Without much imagery, she utilized a combination of stock images and client images giving a clean, easy to navigate design that the client really likes.

"Love it, love it, love it," said the client.

Always remember that by redesigning and refreshing your website to be more in tune to your customers needs will only result in one thing - MORE SALES!

Get your architecture right, design, functionality, browser compliance (firefox, safari and internet explorer) and don't forget search engine optimisation. In a business like this, yellow pages is almost dead and buried and now the most important search tools come in the form of Google, Yahoo and Bing.

So many times I have been on a website and been immediatelty turned off by the layout, design and functionality. People have missed out on great products because of the first impression. You only get one shot. Great idea to refresh the look. Its worth it!

A company's website is a consumer's first point of contact with the brand. And just like the first 30 seconds when forming your impression of someone, the end user does so very similarly with your website. The more they like it, the more trusting they are of the brand, and the more they eventually buy! A vicious win-win cycle.
