We rely very heavily on our website to generate leads and to this end, I write a blog almost daily to drive traffic. I also spend between one and three hours per week on Twitter and about 30 minutes a week on Linkedin.
This month, we have decided that since we are growing so fast, we may as well put our growth plans in Atlanta on steriods and give it everything we have got. To that end, we have commenced a marketing campaign to drive 200 new clients in 12 months.
On the weekend, I spent some time looking at Marketing Eye's rankings on various systems and found out some interesting information:
- Marketing Eye is the highest ranked marketing consulting firm in Australia on the Internet
- Marketing Eye is ranked 977 most popular site in Sydney: which is very good for a marketing consulting firm let me tell you! There are a lot of consumer based websites to visit like Facebook, Twitter etc before you head to Marketing Eye's specialised site.
- Marketing Eye has scored a 9/10 for traffic to site
- Marketing Eye's number one driver for traffic is this marketing blog
- People visiting the Marketing Eye website spend an average of 14 minutes on the site. That is HUGE!
This information is based on our Australia website and as a company that was originally founded in Australia, we hope to leverage our results online here to boost our rankings in the US. In Atlanta, our rankings are very high for marketing consultants, marketing atlanta, consultant atlanta, marketing company as it is nationally throughout the US . Our aim is to focus on increasing our page rankings for these keywords.
What does this website ranking information mean to our marketing strategy?
Traffic is great. Clearly, we are doing something right. As a company, we don't pay for Adwords and rely on SEO instead. If people are spending 14 minutes on our website, what are they doing? They read our home page, about us, contact page, small business marketing consulting and marketing consultant pages. They also read the blog and this is where they spend most of their time. So, while people are reading our marketing blog, how are we engaging with them further? The reality is that we are writing material that just keeps them coming back day after day. Like every business, there is a time that we will need to look at how we leverage this blog to monetize it and leverage its popularity.
Every day we receive requests for advertising on the blog and for paid guest posts. As yet, we have said no but maybe in the future we may look into this.
Importantly, as a company, we use these page ranking statistics to find out what people are interested in and what the demographic of visitor coming to our site is.
We know that the inquiries are largely from people aged 35 to 55 years, yet our blog is much younger and readers are from 25 to 35 years. In some ways, the marketing blog can educate people on entrepreneurs and definitely on marketing, so this does makes sense.
Now it is all about making this work for the business and drive our 300 extra clients over 12 months. I will keep you posted on how that goes and the journey behind using statistics from Google Analytics and website ranking systems to develop more targeted marketing campaigns.
