Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

Watching from the grandstand is the best seat in the house
It's been a mammoth month in so many ways for the business. End of financial year in Australia is always draining. As a marketer, there is no fun in fulfilling your obligations as a business owner for the taxation department.
What kills successful marketing campaigns?
There are so many reasons why marketing campaigns fail (even successful ones) , but don't let not following up be one of them.
Social media was a game changer for the business
Recently in Melbourne I did a speech in front of a group of hugely inspiring business women on how I built Marketing Eye to be in the position we are in today.

In writing that speech, I realized something very important. Our success didn't really have much to do with what we were selling, as ultimately in that market, we have a lot of competitors.

What made the business so successful, and ensured that our phones ring non-stop with inquiries is social media.
As a marketing consultancy firm, we have experienced a variety of different marketing managers throughout our offices globally; the obsessive compulsive, the sales-orientated, the technology geek, the fly by the seat of their pants kind, and the one's that really only know one or two things and have to wing it the rest of the way.

Marketing managers today have no excuse. Everything you need to know is online and available just by surfing the net. If you want to know how to write a strategy, it's there. If you want to know how to write a press release, it's there. If you need to know how to put together a social media calendar, it's there.
The traits of an exceptional sales manager
One of the most important people in any office is arguably the sales manager. Often when you are a smaller business, the entrepreneur or CEO doubles as a sales manager, and this can get a company so far, but not all the way.
From automation to inside sales, remarketing and branding it’s all here
I have been putting magazines together since the Czech Republic applied for membership to the EU. That was 1996 and back then Tupac was still alive, Trainspotting was released into cinemas and the French halted nuclear testing in the Pacific.

Magazine production has been my passion for almost 20 years, and whilst I am making myself feel old writing this blog, there has remained a sense of achievement with each and every issue of the thousands I have helped produce, including the latest issue of Marketing Eye.
Standout behaviours of highly successful marketers
What is it that makes some marketers more successful than others? Perhaps they are smarter? Do they have a secret sauce? Or are they just in the right place at the right time, surrounded by the right people?

I've seen some mind-blowing marketers in my time, and I've also seen some marketers that are just terrible and give marketing a very bad name. But there are some particular things that stand out in successful marketers that we all can learn from. They have some basic fundamentals that they live by; either intentionally or not. Their behaviours are consistent and without exception.
New York, where business never sleeps, and people dream
I am rejuvenated and ready to tackle my next challenge after spending valuable time in New York talking to hundreds of entrepreneurs from around the globe.

After having breakfast with Jo Burston, founder of Inspiring Rare Birds, at Mercer Kitchen in Soho, I realized for the first time that the change I am experiencing in business happens to many others in a similar manner. Somehow, we get most of changes right or at least we get more right than we get wrong. When this happens everything falls into place and no obstacle is too hard to overcome.
The Kardashian Effect: Why image is good for business
As Kim Kardashian prepares too have her second child and her stepfather has completed his transgender journey, it is an appropriate time to look at the 'Kardashian Effect'.

The Urban Dictionary defines the Kardashian effect as “
The practice of caring about D list celebrities who have no talent and contribute nothing to society.” However there is another, more positive way at looking at this phenomenon, and that is to examine the business behind how the Kardashians became so popular.
Am I good enough?

Am I good enough?

May 31, 2015 Written by
I won't beat around the bush on this topic because it's something that we all experience at some point in time - and if you say that you don't, I am calling #bullshit.

I am always asked to help friends out with marketing. It's been something that I am asked every week by at least one person. I tend to shy away from it. I know you are thinking "why?". The truth is that I think deep down that I won't be good enough to help them. They deserve the best to get their business idea off the ground or take their business to the next level. And that may not be me. It may be one of my team members. It may even be a competitor.

Here's why:
The New Marketing Executive - What that really looks like
When asked today what I think a Marketing Executive would need to have that they may not have needed a few years ago, my answer was simple. "A Marketing Executive must be a social media expert."
Seeing is believing: why you must adopt visual marketing
We live in an age of Visual Culture, as super bloggerJeff Bullas has deemed. And in this period of time where everyone has a camera phone on stand-by to capture one of life’s many moments, the moniker certainly stands true.

Visual content is a universal language; Esperanto in image form that people from all over the world share. The image may be of a dog named Pippa with her own Instagram account or it could be an infographic detailing the complex nature of how to bone a fish Masterchef style. It may be a moving image of someone repairing a car engine or attempting fine tapestry.
How to be a high performing marketing executive in today's competitive environment
If you don't believe that being average is an option, then as a buddying high flying marketing executive there are a few tips that may take you to the next level and help get you noticed in the market.

High performing marketing executives have a couple of key traits that are imperative to their success.

1. Dream big: Marketing Executives that stand out from the crowd often have big dreams that they want to fulfill. These dreams are documented in diaries, post-it notes, and importantly deeply entrenched in their mindset.
Marketing automation will increase your sales by 68%
In a presentation at Cebit 2015 held in Sydney recently, I shared why marketing automation implemented correctly in a business is so valuable to that business. Rather than use another case study, I used my own company, Marketing Eye, as an example of how to implement marketing automation to gain instant results.

To give you a little insight, Marketing Eye has a substantial amount of monthly traffic coming to our website - mainly due to the popularity of this blog and the effectiveness of our SEO team.
