With this new transition in the social media world, done right, social media should be a huge component in any business's strategy to help generate leads. Need more convincing? Here are some facts about the growth and influence of social media:
1. Marketing Budgets for Social Media are Increasing
Studies show that the Marketing Budget for social media in companies will increase over the next 5 years. Researchers found that in 2015 Marketers spent $9 billion and that by 2019, they'll spend a little over $17 billion. Researchers go on to say that, “Social media spending is projected to comprise over 20% of marketing budgets in the next five years. These numbers reflect a fourfold increase in social media spending since 2009.”
All of the these findings and the growth in social media tell us a couple of things. One, that companies are seeing that social media is working, and will continue to invest in it. Two, you better get more creative with your content!
2. People are Turning to Social Media for News
Social media is increasingly becoming the new “go to” method of reading and discovering about recent news. A study done by PEW Research states that, “When you take into account both the total reach of a site (the share of Americans who use it) and the proportion of users who get news on the site, Facebook is the obvious news powerhouse among the social media sites. Roughly two-thirds (64%) of U.S. adults use the site, and half of those users get news there — amounting to 30% of the general population.” The study goes on further to state that YouTube makes up for 10% of the US population that use it specifically for news, and 16% use Twitter.
Over the years, this trend has grown more and more and will continue to grow. Posting news that is relevant to your company and having it retweeted, reposted, commented on, as well as liked will create great brand awareness. Is this marked off your checklist?
3. Know Which Platform is Appropriate
Already have social media implemented into your strategy? Knowing which platform is appropriate for your audience is a key factor of getting the most out of your Social Media Marketing. Studying your demographic and catering to their interests as well as researching what social media site they are more likely to be on is HUGE. If you are Marketing on the wrong platform it will be a waste of time and money!
For example, a recent study done by PEW Research found that more women use instagram than men. To be exact out of all of instagram’s users 65% are women, and 35% of them use instagram more than once a day. If you are selling B2C and are focusing on women in 2017, Instagram is definitely a great start! Another study states that, “The ‘most important’ social networks to teens and young adults (aged 12-24) are now Instagram (32%), Twitter (24%), Facebook (14%), Snapchat (13%) and Tumblr (4%).” The study continues to say that more men than women use YouTube, as well as more teens. Men spend 44% more time on YouTube than women do, if your audience is a male in his teens, what are you waiting for? You better get that camera rolling and get some content up!
