Melbourne has been my home for a good part of the past 10 years and although I felt as though I would never quite feel the same about this adopted city as I do of Sydney, somehow without me realizing it, I changed my mind.
What a visitor first realizes about landing in Melbourne is that the air is fresh. Unlike so many capital cities around the world, pollution doesn't seem to play a big role. As I arrived on a cold winters morning, with a slight breeze in the air and a chill that reminded me that I am alive, I sighed. I left this, for what? The dream of making it big? The desire for change? To feel uncomfortable because life had become so mundane? In search of adventure? For something that I can't quite pinpoint, but know is there?
So many entrepreneurs before me have done this. Left the comforts of home to follow a dream.
Mine was in America. The country where anything can happen. A place where if you make it big, you've really made it big.
I don't know if my ambitions are really that huge, but I am strategic, if anything. I know that to increase the value of a business such as mine, that I need to increase the footprint and build profitable businesses all over the world.
At some stage, when the business is on the up, I make a choice - to sell, or keep building. It's something that many small business owners have in the back of their minds.
But for now, I am in Melbourne, just finishing off a couple of things before returning to Atlanta, and I am savouring every moment; drinking vino with friends, buying coffee from my favorite cafe, driving a car on the left hand side of the road and spending time with loved ones. It really doesn't get much better than that.
Today, I am going to write a letter to my nearest and dearest telling them how much I appreciate them. It may be that I spend the next few years chasing a dream and not finding enough time to spend with people I care about, but they are still very important to me and with their blessing, I will continue to create, build and cherish the adventures that come my way.
