I often relate women's relentless desire to have a perfect body, whatever that may be, to how one looks at their lives and their businesses or careers as it may be. I have put it out there, as you can see in the photo. I am a typical 38 year old woman, who knows only too well, that no body is perfect. This photograph was taken a few months ago, and I look at it and think, "my gosh, I wish that I had a flatter stomach without dints, or that my boobs were a little bigger, my thighs a little smaller and my hips a little more rounded", but you know that is never going to happen. It is what I am genetically born with. I can't change it. Sure I can exercise more, but that will only make me thinner which at my age, you never want to be. I could eat more, but I am sure that all the eating in the world isn't going to get me the body I want. My boobs may get bigger, but the trade off is my thighs will too.
In business, having a big vision in mind for where you see your business going is good. But don't be disillusioned if you don't quite get there. There are so many areas we all want to be perfect; employee satisfaction and performance, sales growth, marketing, brand awareness, profits, product and service delivery, expansion and more. By drawing up a perfect business and working hard towards achieving it, you will start the first step to turning a dream into a reality. When you start getting traction, don't be too disappointed if you haven't been able to tick all the boxes. In life, it is highly unlikely that we will ever be in a situation whereby we tick every single box, so why should we expect it in business. By aiming for perfection and doing the hard yards to work towards achieving it, we are mitigating our chances of failure, but being in touch with reality is equally as important.
Focus on what you love. Be happy in your own skin. Realise the positives that come out of you being present in your business, like inspiring your staff, creating jobs and doing something that you enjoy. Vision perfect, but don't expect it in its full enormity. It won't happen just like you want it to happen.
Celebrate success, aspire for perfection and create an environment both personally and professionally that makes you feel that the world is your oyster.
Handy little tip for a very stunning Thursday.
