Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

Whether you are a fresh start-up or looking to rebrand your company now that things have finally slowed down, logo design plays a big part in the marketing equation. Although it is one of the tougher parts of marketing to quantify, forgetting about your logo can be a hidden anchor that holds your marketing efforts back. Taking the time to really dig for a creative design or revisit your logo can pay big dividends. Here are five insights that will give structure and intention to your logo design process.
Making Your Mark

 1.  A logo lasts forever

Nobody is going to pin a ribbon on your logo from day one, but as time passes, your logo should remain relevant. This means avoiding popular fads that are tied down to a singular point in time (I am looking at you, The Bomb and YOLO). Need some inspiration? Check out Kellogg’s and the Olympics.

 2.  Distinguish yourself from others

It may seem like a clever idea to simply put your company’s name in the classic Disney or Coca-Cola logo styles, but avoid this at all costs. By using other logos as a template, every interaction someone has with your logo will remind them of another business. You may not be in direct competition with them, but you want your company and brand to be on their mind when they see your logo, not some multi-million dollar company.

 3.  Communicate who you are and what you do

Before scrambling into that sketchbook, sit down and use words to build a picture of your company. Your company history, tagline, core values, and any words that describe your business are strong messages that you may want to construe through your logo. When your logo can communicate the value you bring, it can translate into additional sales.

 4.  Choose your color(s) carefully

When in doubt, black and white are your best friends; however, your logo can benefit from a splash of color too. Certain colors represent certain industries and can elicit various responses. The medical field consistently uses variations of blue for logos, and colors like green traditionally represent growth or environmental friendliness.

 5.  Actively plan time to focus on the design

Now that you have some ideas about what goes into creating a fitting logo for your company, get to work! The logo that you want will not come to you in a dream or vision. Set aside blocks of time to research various logos and color schemes, draw some rough sketches, and finalize the last details of your design. Pro Tip: Keep every sketch to look back on while you are still in the design process.

Nobody said it’s easy, but nobody said it was insignificant either. Your logo is an essential foundation for the rest of your marketing endeavors. Sometimes, a well-designed logo is all it takes to get you in the door. Only you can close a sale, but your logo can be impactful by positively reinforcing their perception of your company.

Although a logo is best kept simple, it isn’t always an easy process. It isn’t a bad idea to let experienced graphic designers develop your logo. Marketing Eye has plenty of experience to bring to the table with a talented team of graphic designers that can create a logo that will personify your business.
