Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

In the past week I have sat in a room with 799 other entrepreneurs listening to 5 or more speakers per day on topics ranging from entrepreneurship, happiness and charity through to tackling depression and finding out to spot a liar a mile away.

The speakers were all inspiring and all brought something to the table but no-one more so than the people sitting next to me. Each and every person in the room has a story to tell. They have built businesses through adversity, a shaky economic climate, prejudice, their own demons and because someone somewhere said they couldn't do it.

Each person has a business that turns over more than $1 million per year and can openly attest to at some stage having some sort of struggle with their businesses whether it is financial, emotional or through buying out a business partner and owning up to the fact that their dream just isn't working out the way they thought it should.

I've been an entrepreneur for 13 years and its been a wonderful journey full of everything you can imagine an entrepreneur going through. There has been so many lessons and at times, I have thought there have been way to many for one person, but they all help shape the business person I am today.

I remember going to my first conference of this type years ago and not having too much to offer other participants in terms of experience both life and business. Now, years on, I was able to share some of my stories on obstacles that I have tackled rightly and wrongly over time. By sharing these experiences, people are able to decide whether or not it relates to them or not.

Being an entrepreneur is exciting. Now, for me personally, it is more exciting than ever before. Namely because the sky is the limit and international expansion is happening at an alarming rate. I am also more financial and that helps when you are expanding so that you can travel in comfort and not spare expenses on things that may be important.

Opening in the US is just the start. There are other opportunities in Europe that are equally worthy of my time and efforts.

Expansion isn't just about growing a company into international markets. It is also about how we can innovate as a company and become a world leader rather than a company that is a big fish in a very tiny pond.

"It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be." Paul Arden.

We want to be better and we are hellbent on being the absolute best small marketing firm in the world. We still have a few lessons to learn and will continue to innovate and grow.

"If you get stuck, draw with a different pen." Paul Arden

Things will come up but we are not scared. In fact, we are determined to continue down this very exciting path with the same gusto as the first day we opened our doors. If things do not turn out how we would have liked them to, be assured that we will find ways to walk around it, jump over it or crawl under because nothing is going to stop us from getting to the next level.

"Don't take no for an answer." Paul Arden

If you ask any successful business person, they would have told you that the word "no" has been told to them repeatedly over time. Then they will follow with "I did not take "no" for an answer." Whoever came up with that word should demand it be abolished from the dictionary. There is no such thing as NO. Only YES and MAYBE.
