Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

It's a number that interests me. Not because it is large, nor because it says that we are not average. 126 is average according to Twitter, and we have certainly surpassed that - I think in the first day of joining.

The reason it interests me is because there are 14,090 tweeters to talk to - if I feel compelled to do so. That is a lot of people. Sure it is not like the millions our celebrity friends have nor is it like the supposed "guru's" with 50k plus, but it is a number that signifies a positioning that has allowed Marketing Eye to gain traction online and have real "conversations" with people who have or may become clients and/or friends.

Two weeks ago, we made $79,000 worth of sales derived from connections made via Twitter.
14,090 Twitter Followers To Chat To

Last week, our pipeline went up $500k from two Twitter followers asking if we can tender on their marketing. We usually prefer the small stuff, but what the heck! This is getting exciting!

40% of Twitter Users Search For Products

Did you know that 40% of Twitter users regularly search for products via Twitter? That is quite significant I think.

I like Twitter on a personal level for news because this platform beats all others time and time again in communicating the very latest in news.

It's also unbelievable for the latest in marketing information, technology insights and the sharing of blogs that are interesting or showcase an opinion that gives food for thought.

Every now and again, I am also inspired by quotations that people share on Twitter. They are inspirational and often make me sit back and think. I don't so much like them on Facebook, but for some reason, I expect it on Twitter and am thankful when one inspirational quote particularly resonates with how I am feeling on that particular day.

More recently, I have started to unfollow people not following our two accounts (marketingeyeus and marketingeyeaus). The reason for this, is that we follow everyone following us and what I am looking for on Twitter is meaningful conversation - not a one way dialogue.

Sure, I may share a picture of a morning sunrise, or a glass of champagne, but mainly I share business stories, things that inspire me or remind me to be better than the person I am today. But the single biggest thing I share is the Marketing Eye blog on being an entrepreneur, woman in business and marketer. It is singularly the most popular tweet of my day and I LOVEthe fact that so many twitter followers read my blog and share their thoughts.

140 million people actively use Twitter

8% of Americans are on Twitter and 140 million people actively use this social media platform. It is my favourite for many reasons. I am not a fan of Facebook but know it has a purpose. With Twitter, I feel the communications between tweeters are more real and they are in real time. It's easy to share. There is no fluffing about. The majority of users are between 25 and 55 years, so in my demographic. We tend to get each other. Competitors follow me and I follow them. There is plenty of work out there for small business marketers so why not?

The media contacts me through my twitter account. Television producers do the same.

There are more women than men on Twitter which is kind of cool in many ways. We talk about stuff that sometimes men just don't get, or they choose to ignore.

With 53% of small businesses using social media, there has to be a sway somewhere. Facebook is for friends, Twitter and Linkedin is for business and everything else is just to be enjoyed.
