Over the years, many of my friends have lost parents and I have always felt for them but now I realise that no-one can really understand how it feels and what it is like until it has happened to you.
I have lived most of my adult life away from my parents forging a career in Sydney and Melbourne and exploring the world. I talk to my family every couple of days and keep up to date with what they are doing and vice-versa.
It has always seemed to be enough. Until today. Today I have realised that I have missed out on so much in the lives of the people that I love.
Whilst we work hard at our businesses, there is something to be said for work/life balance. Too often, small business owners get caught up in making a ‘buck’ or just surviving, that everything else becomes a second priority.
As you forge ahead in business, make sure your strategy includes spending time with family and loved ones and being there for your children when they learn to walk or start their first day of school. Business is replaceable but these special moments aren’t.
