I am an introvert. As such, many introverts are deep thinkers. Introverts and their over-thinking may not be for everyone, but for those who appreciate that can appreciate the occasional challenging of ideas, keeping you endlessly on your toes and in some ways alive because you have to keep thinking back - the introvert is the friend, the partner and the family member that many want.
I've led a spectacular life that has been real on every front. Real in terms of me being who I am and not apologizing for what makes me different to the person beside me.
I watched on the weekend the last series of Royal Pains. It's an American television show based on a concierge Doctor and set in the Hamptons. It's quite the girly show, and certainly nothing that is earth shattering in terms of great television to watch. The Doctor found himself in a place, where everyone else had made life choices and were living the lives they were meant to live. Yet, he was not quite there, and in many ways was judged and put inside a box based on where he was positioned at that point in his life. It became something of an issue, one that he finally did overcome.
That box, it isn't all bad. We make choices for a reason, good and bad. We learn lessons along the way. We have people who come into our lives for a reason, a season or sometimes a lifetime. Challenges cross our path and the way we handle them often determines how much we grow and in some ways how others perceive us.
I've made a lot of choices, taken a lot of risks and been on this breathtaking adventure that has seen me develop from a country girl that was incredibly shy, to a worldly, well-travelled, thought provoking advocate for business and helping others.
Did I think I would sit here right now and be in my shoes? No way. Have I complained or been a little disappointed because I am at times? Absolutely. But today is a new day and everything begins with positivity and belief that anything and everything is possible.
I can't begin to tell you what has gone through my mind of late, but I am definitely reminded constantly of who I am, what I believe in, and how my life will continue to grow and expand.
I've been privileged to have had a family who supports me in every endeavour. I have been madly and truly in love with two people, and hurt by their choices along with my own. I don't regret that one bit. I could have handled things differently at times, but you know what, I am human and sometimes we make stupid mistakes, act before thinking and our emotions get in the way of what is possible.
But I am sitting here on a Sunday and I am immensely thankful for both experiences. They shape me personally and have opened me up to the next great love that crosses my path.
I am going to do a few things differently in my personal life that will shock a few, but this life is about me and not others. We are only responsible for our own journey, and when we take responsibility for others, we fail and often interfere.
Business is about to step up another notch. My proud Accountant tells me that our achievements over the past few years have been unbelievable and during that time, I have to say I have had some of my lowest personal moments - so that tells me one thing; I can only focus on one thing at a time (who says that only men are born like that!).
I thrive on new ideas, innovation, changing the paradigm of how we and others operate, and bringing something to the table, while also having the opportunity to sit there.
I make decisions fast. I don't procrastinate when something in any aspect of my life needs a decision. It's a strong point, and something that I admire least in others who don't have the same capability, only because they are missing out on moving forward by standing still.
i have a book coming out and I am proud at how honest and open it is, while at the same time sharing real experiences in my business life that may help others that are on the same journey.
For those entrepreneurs or women for that matter, who are wondering where life is taking them - don't be afraid to be different. Don't cry over spilt milk. Live every day like it is a new day. Forgive every person. Keep those who don't share your values at a distance. Change it up and take a few risks - as what is the worse that will happen. Don't be afraid to dream and then do something about realising those dreams. Challenge what is put in front of you. Do some things your way and other times learn to listen to how someone else is doing it - because you never know, by listening you might just learn a thing or two. Be kind always. Constant, relentless improvement is always necessary. Stay away from Peter Pan. Keep people in your life that are real, and the entertainers as acquaintances that are brought in only when you want entertaining. Trust your own gut instinct and judgement. Give to those less fortunate, and most importantly believe in who you see in the mirror without needing to change your appearance for the sake of feeling like you need to fit in.
