At the time, I worked in marketing for a large retailer and Nicole worked for News Limited. We lived together and like most girls that age, we spent night after night talking about how one day we would do this and one day we would do that. We both had big dreams and were prepared to put in the hard yards to achieve them.
I fell in love with a footballer and spent the next 10 years living wherever he was playing at the time and she fell in love with a Radio guy and married and eventually moved away.
We have stayed in touch, but as it goes, often even though we have every good intention, it’s hard to do.
Her career blossomed and she ended up working for News Limited for 12 years and then started her own successful business. I had a successful career and started my first company Insomnia Marketing and Communication when I was 25, and Marketing Eye when I was 30.
A month ago, we happened to be in the same city at the same time and caught up. She has been hugely successful in her online payments business but it runs itself and she all of a sudden is looking for a new challenge.
As you know if you read my marketing blogs, I run Marketing Eye. Our business continues to grow and expand into new regions. Queensland has always been my soft spot and we have many clients there, but as a company we have never focused heavily on growing the business in Brisbane. It’s more focused on the Gold Coast, Townsville and Cairns regions.
Given Nicole’s background in the media, sales and marketing, our new found reconnection, has been great timing. She is ready for something new and exciting, and right now, Marketing Eye is doing some very impressive things. We are signing over the rights for the company in Europe and are signing 10 new clients a month all deriving from website leads and referrals.
After a glass of champagne and talking into the wee hours of the morning, it’s been decided that Nicole will now head up Marketing Eye Queensland. I am thrilled. She is brilliant at sales and marketing and her customer relationship management skills are second to none. I have always admired how well she manages clients in her previous businesses and how passionate she is about achieving outcomes. And thanks to News Limited, she has been on every sales and marketing course available to mankind!!!! An investment that you can see has worked from the moment she opens her mouth and starts talking business.
Above all else… she has passion! Real passion! She is as excited about Marketing Eye as I am. She sees the vision and sees the benefits to small businesses by having a marketing eye in their business.
We have an aim to increase our Queensland revenue by $1 million in the next 12 months. I know she can do this better than anyone and feel secure in the knowledge that we have a person representing Marketing Eye that I can proudly say, is able to run Queensland, as good, if not better than me.
