We all know that I love working, but its a question that every person should ask themselves every now and again.
As we grow up, we have instilled in our mindset that you have to get a job. When you are around 17 years of age, this begins to ring much louder and every second person asks you what you are going to do with the rest of your life.
Then by the time you have been to University and finished, they look at you like you are some kind of freak because you may not have gone down your original path and perhaps you have finished University and haven't quite got that dream job you were looking for.
Maybe job interviews are not your finest hour. Perhaps, you have been caught up in University life too much and your hairstyle or dress, isn't what the corporate world is looking for.
There are so many variables in life and things that you have to think about that on occasion a little bit of 'mixing it up' won't go astray.
When anyone on my team comes to me and asks for extended leave to find themselves, travel, get back in the right head space or because they just feel like it - I usually say yes. Why? You only live once, so why live by someone else's rules.
Obviously, business withstanding, these decisions are made together with my team members who want more out of life. And they deserve it as well.
I like the flexible work week, the job sharing mentality and even the commitment to taking a couple of months off a year rather than the mandatory four weeks.
While I may fall into a routine most of the time, I travel and therefore get to explore the world and the people in it. Sometimes I may spend a lonely night in a hotel, but mostly, I am meeting up with interesting and diverse people from all over the world.
When you go to work tomorrow, follow a different route. If you take a tram, maybe walk a little. Go a bit out of your way to have lunch with someone different or someone you haven't seen in a while. See a play. Go to the art gallery. Walk the streets. Be inspired.
The world we live in is wonderful, crazy, full of life and there for us to explore, enjoy and appreciate.
