Focus on the experience
Writing informative content is the easy part of content writing. Can your team take it an extra step? Content experience is all about writing material to facilitate the user experience. Take a look at how you can improve your content, your website, and your strategy to make sure that your users are spending more time reading your material. Improving the user experience can start from several different places, but these are the important ones:
- Test and optimize the mobile version of your website
- Write shorter paragraphs for your mobile site
- Include images, subheadings and bulleted lists to give your content space
- Personalize everything
The more time and attention you give these pieces will create a more streamlined user experience.
Write long-form content
As your content gets longer, this also increases the amount of time that your readers spend on your website. The trick here is to hold their interest throughout the piece and even pique their interest enough to make them want to come back. Not every blog should be thousands of words long, but it’s probably worth writing a couple of longer pieces per month. While longer blogs are helpful, the best long-form content you could produce is a downloadable eBook or clickable white pages. Keep track of who is clicking through, what led them to these pieces, and how many downloads you get each month.
Read everything out loud
The best way to make sure that the content you write makes sense is to read everything out loud. It might seem ridiculous, but it’s a good practice to ensure that your writing is on-brand and makes sense. There are plenty of ways for writers to lose the thread of what they are writing and reading everything out loud pushes them to review how the message is coming across. If your content isn’t performing the way that you think it should try reading it out loud to improve the way you write. You want everything you write to be easily understood and sound natural.
