I ditched corporate life for entrepreneurship when I was just 25 years old. I wasn't scared, I was excited, because I didn't have any real responsibilities and I owned my own home with my steady boyfriend at the time and life was pretty dandy. 
Reasons to ditch your corporate career to start your own business

While working for others, I never really got the opportunity to get bored, and in my career ever since, there hasn't been a day in my life that has been boring. In fact, it has been completely the opposite.

Every single day is full. There is always so much to do and so little time. They say that if you want something done, ask a busy person. Well, I am that person.

Being an entrepreneur is about dreaming all the time. Just by the nature of entrepreneurship, you get to imagine your future and then take the steps to make it happen.

When I first started, I just wanted to do a good job. Then when doing a good job meant clients were referring me, I watched my bank balance grow and all of a sudden that too became exciting. I remember buying my first Louis Vuitton handbag for over $3,000 when I was 25 years old. I felt like I was the richest person in the world, just for that one moment. 

Then when money was no longer giving me excitement, re-imagining our services became exciting, then redefining our specialized area of business. Building technology took it to the next level. Social media took it to another. And now, 17 years later I am still jumping out of bed every morning and I can't wait to get to the office and start my day. 

There is nothing about my job that I don't love. From the challenges through to creating powerful brands for our clients, or writing a magazine article - it's all fulfilling in one way or another.

I may not have much time up my sleeve but I am passionate and there is no price you can put on being in that state of mind every single day.

Having my own business is rewarding:

  • Your work matters in every area of the business
  • You can watch your business grow and others around you 
  • You can make change happen quickly
  • You get to explore what you are capable of
  • You can pick your own hours and your own terms
  • You are your brand and you get to determine what people think of your brand
  • If you are financially successful, you will never have to think about paying the rent
Marketing Eye Licenses its brand so that other marketers can follow the same journey as I have, but with a head start. We give marketers that have tired from corporate life, or simply want greater flexibility and more money than they would get working for others an opportunity to own their own Marketing firm using the Marketing Eye brand. 

To date we have four Licensees who are all doing incredibly well. They are passionate about owning their own businesses and are excelling at using the Marketing Eye brand, magazine, technology, infrastructure and back-end team to deliver goals for their clients.

Importantly, they are never alone. They are part of a team and call in all the time to chat or bounce ideas. It's a great way of working and an important step for Marketing Eye as a company to expand our footprint.
