On Thursday night, PR-guru, Helen Reizer relaunched the White Room with a few hundred people celebrating in style with free champagne, nibbles and a list of who is who in the Melbourne launch scene. No matter what Helen works on, it is always successful and it’s a bit like the great work that Sherene Kiddle or Lara Shannon does in their perspective PR fields.
I am always impressed by their turnouts and the professionalism of what they do. They give clients exceptional value for money and their relationships with key media in Melbourne are top-notch.
Due to the internet, PR lasts for years. I am still reading a story in a trade editorial for the IT industry that was written 12 years ago about myself. Unfortunately, it comes up on the first page of google when you check out my name and still makes me cringe. I was just starting my first marketing company and the journalist called me a PR. Which is fine if you do public relations, but I do marketing and when you are forging a careering in marketing, you only want to be branded as such.
If your business could do with a little PR, then don’t just go to the big companies that are out there. Check out who has great stories written about them and ring them up and ask who does their PR. You never know, you could just be the next story on the block.
As for social pages, there are a few tips to consider. Friends of mine who have a profile, suck up to Publicists to get invited to exclusive events and turn up to an opening of an envelope. They also spend alot of time getting to know photographers and often use the line with them that they are looking for a photographer for new profile shots. It works a treat! Other than that, as superficial as this may sound, make sure you go to events with ‘beautiful people’ because the more attractive they are, the more likely that a photographer will ask to take their pictures. Many B and C Listers do this to guarantee they get their mug shots in the social pages.
Now you know the tips, go out and do it!!!
