Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

We have been very privileged at Marketing Eye to keep our key team for almost the entire duration of the company. What that has done is establish a firm foundation of people who understand the business, it's vision and what expectations are key to ensuring its ultimate success.

Christina Kortesis who has run the Melbourne office without any interference since the company started has been the backbone of the business. She has continually shown what a good leader should do. Her nurturing skills and ultimate knowledge of marketing is second to none. She has empathy and understands the predicaments that our clients face, as well as that of her own staff.
Every marketer is different

Internships in Melbourne are run by the Inside Sales Executives. Atlanta is just about to get much bigger and better... here's why They go through an onboarding process and work closely with the marketing team. They have the opportunity to work on projects that they would not necessarily have done so in any other organisation. We know how important this is for them and how this changes their ability to move forward finalising their studies or commencing in the workforce.

Exceptional interns are one's who want to do more then just tick the box

There are always a few interns that are over the top exceptional. They are the one's I get to be exposed to and they are constantly pushed to the limit to see where their skills can take them.

I can name a few right now; Ruby, a talented graphic designer with app development skills beyond her years of experience is working on an app project with Rio, a marketer who thinks outside the box and is super creative. I am letting them go ballistic putting together the basis of an app, and then when they have finished their version, providing it back to them for their portfolio's. This is really important as there is no point in doing an internship if you are not able to do things that really impact your ability to build a substantial portfolio.

The World Incubator is being developed by interns - they have done an amazing job!

I am also working with Elsie and Victoria on a not-for-profit from the ground up. I must say, both girls are outstanding. Elsie is a marketer with a good heart and who is wanting to put her skills to something worthwhile. Victoria works parttime at Kookai and is an exceptional writer - actually, they both are, and is in public relations. There work on 'The World Incubator' is at the level of a senior person and will look amazing on their CV's however, we hope to employ all four of these interns who are beyond in all areas of marketing and personality.

Building teams is easier when you let them pick their own team. It's when management interferes that we end up with hit and misses. I once hired a person who I knew vaguely but for years, daughter, which was a nightmare from day one. Only child, felt entitled and was lacking in marketing skills and in particular the skills she promoted in her job interview of writing marketing strategies was her weakest skill. Our interns do a much better job.

Let your team pick their team

The moral of that is to stay out of it. Let people pick their own staff and support each other to achieving great results. It's so important as you grow as managers are busy with big vision stuff. Which we have done for quite a few years.

Business is never easy, but it's a collaborative thing. As long as everyone works together and helps out when need be - it all works out in the end.

What makes one marketer better than another?

The answer varies of course depending on the person and position, but ultimately it has more to do with attitude. A great marketer doesn't waste time on things that don't deserve their attention, and instead focuses on being better at their job and undertstanding in depth the latest in marketing techniques. They subscribe to other bloggers and are avid readers and are the first to attend keynote speaches from people that inspire greatness.

And they never gossip or buy into office politics - which fortunately, we have none of.
