Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

Constantly learning in life is a must. If we don't, we all know what happens.

We fall behind, become less interesting and life doesn't come as easy as it should.

As an avid learner, I am always wanting to know more and I find learning imperative to living life.

Emotional intelligence is a little harder than basic learning and its surprising how many people are void of emotional intelligence. They are not able to read people, understand what makes them tick, adapt to varying situations, be empathetic, and personally use their emotional being as a way to become a better person. Typically they have had some childhood issue, a relationship that failed early on or something major happen in their lives that stops them from having the ability to improve their emotional intelligence and grow into adulthood like they should.

In most cases, it would be fair to say that as a woman, emotional intelligence is very important. Let's face it, women are emotional beings for a variety of reasons. Men, however, can benefit from understanding the emotional heirachy of women. They can not only learn from it, but grow and become better in life and in business.

The problem with this equation is age. The older we get, the less likely we are to change. Unless, something dramatic happens in life. A life changing moment. Something that makes us wake up and take notice of the way we act, feel, engage and grow.

Sometimes emotional intelligence jeopardises people's ability to perform, fend off aggressors, and be compassionate in a crisis.

In business, emotional intelligence skills of employees is an important contributor as to where they will head in their careers. Their ability to notice and identify emotions in themselves and others, manage emotions, express emotions and use emotions appropriately in their thinking is part of what makes someone very successful.

There are a number of psychological testing platforms available to test your emotional intelligence that are worthwhile and can help you identify areas to improve before it is too late or you get too old.

I have seen it far to often in life where men and women get into their 40's and 50's and cannot change because they have accepted their own inability to understand their emotions and the emotions of others and often they get left unsuccessful or unfulfilled or all alone.

If you have a high level of emotional intelligence and are in business, you will find ways to better understand your customers, your employees, key stakeholders and overall improve your quality of life.
