Marketing Consultant Shares Insights blog

Everyone loves a great Christmas party, unless of course you are a little like me and you have gone to one too many already.

Over the years, I have had some serious fun at Christmas parties and I can't say that this Fast Company video is anything like what I have experienced. We have all been there, otherwise we are completely boring - and if you don't agree, then hopefully you've already shut down this blog. Without an embarrassing story or two, the office Christmas party becomes quite the chore.

At Marketing Eye, unfortunately, everyone tends to be a little tame. The one year it probably got out of control, I left by 10pm - because I felt like I needed to be a goody-two-shoes. Everyone else partied on until 5am in the morning and had a hoot.

These days, like myself, there are too many parties and as we get older, our bodies don't seem to respond in the same way as they use to.

My unforgettable moments at Christmas parties include:
  • The norm: drinking too much and getting ill - never an attractive move
  • Thinking I can drink with the boys and failing dismally
  • With one drink too many thinking a colleague is a lot more attractive than they may have been in the light of day
  • Dancing like no-one's watching, except they were
  • Encouraging more drinking and finding myself looking after people who perhaps should have stopped long before my encouragement began
  • Dressing a little inappropriately: Dress too short for a big night out with colleagues. Fine at a nightclub, but not in a work setting.
  • Dressing up and finding that no-one else got the memo - oops
This Christmas, don't play by the rules, except HR's of course.
